Do these Chickens Have Large Talons?

I try and steer clear of my love for the South Carolina Gamecocks on this blog... mainly because it would simply depress everyone who reads it... and it would depress me to write it. I used to joke that God gave me the Gamecocks so that I would have a flaw. And what a flaw it is.

If you're into "Recreational Wagering" or as my friend A.Close would call it, "throwing your money away," you can bet South Carolina won't come close to Auburn on the ESPN tomorrow night. Auburn is favored by 13.5 points. Trust me it's too easy. Auburn wins by at least 3 touchdowns. Mark it down. That's my stone, cold, lead pipe, titanic, crazy strong, lock prediction of the decade. My Gamecocks struggled to beat Wofford. We have no O-line, and our QB is a WR in disguise. 13 and a half is a gift. For you Gamecock faithful, I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist.

Truthfully, I've never bet a dime on a sporting event. Never. I won't bet on this game either. But my garnet colored glasses and garnet koolaid may be pushed aside for this one game. USC (the real USC) will get pushed around like a bunch of elementary schoolgirls on Thursday night... just in case you're into recreational wagering.

Also, of note today, Lord Byron Nelson died. Mr. Nelson, not only was one of the greatest golfers, ever, but he was also a member of the churches of christ. Seceretly, I'd always had hoped he'd stick around for Sunday service at North Augusta CoC during Masters week. However, according to my sources, he'd usually pack up and head home on Saturday. He won 11 straight tournaments in row in '42, which many tab as the "greatest year of golf." That's a record that will never be broken.

He won the Masters in 1937 and '42. Nelson's bridge on the 13th tee is named for him. I don't think he's made a Masters cut since about the 60s. For years, he was given the honor of hitting the first ball off the first tee to start the Masters on Thursdays. A couple of years ago, on the opening shot, he shanked his driver and it knocked some poor bystander in the head... lucky dude. I can't wait until my golf skills are such that when I knock someone in the head, they'll consider it an honor.

Chris is excited that he will be at the USC/Auburn game tomorrow night and promises he will be on tv because of where he is sitting. He did say that he figures USC will lose, though. He doesn't really care...he gets to go to a football game!
