The Best Backhanded Compliment Yet

Unlike the blog community, it's difficult to announce your departure to on-island friends. I mean, you can't simply create a press release, walk around town, and casually hand press releases out to everyone you see. (but the thought did cross my mind.)
I also thought about creating a t-shirt for Walking Guy (the mysterious palagi who incessantly walks from the Scanlan motel to Tafuna and back... all day long.) If I screen printed, "Team Murphy is exiting the premises" and he wore it... everyone on the island would know by 4 p.m. Of course, they may also think that's a death threat since it's coming from the mysterious Walking Guy... but that's another issue.
Word of our departure has finally reached most of our friends.
One of our closest Samoan friends who has been a joy to know, yet simultaneously a pain to deal with, told me on Sunday,
"Sole, I never thought I would miss you."
Ummm. Thanks.... I think.

i like the tshirt idea. i think walking man would appreciate a new shirt. time to replace "a force to be reckoned with". and you're totally right, everyone would've seen it. maybe we'll do that when we leave...if walking man's still walking by that time.
